AFLW's Demons are developing a serious development problem
A problem has been looming for the Melbourne Demons and it's only stalked its way closer through the 2020 trade period.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Fremantle Dockers
Freo announced themselves as an unstoppable force representing the west coast this year and seemed determined to bring home the club's first ever premiership cup. Hopefully the tragically short 2020 season will spur them on to play with the same power next year.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: North Melbourne Kangaroos
Many had them tipped as the premiership team in what would have been a cracking finals series displaying AFLW at a whole new level. Fans can hope that the Roos will be bring the same finesse and intensity to 2021 to see them bring the cup home.
26 Apr 2020
'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Carlton Blues
The Blues impressed on all fronts this year, moving from strength to strength down the field. With a young list ready and waiting to make their mark on the AFLW, a number of premiership hopefuls will be hard-pressed to climb up the ladder, over the rung with the Baggers' name stamped on it.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: GWS Giants
It was a somewhat surprising season from GWS in 2020 as we saw them make their first ever finals appearance. If they can learn from this season's mistakes and develop a little more resilience during momentum swings, they could use this season as a springboard into a more consistent and successful run in 2021.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Melbourne Demons
A good year saw the Melbourne Demons defy expectations and put their resilience on show as they battled it out to preliminary finals. If they can maintain that intensity next year as some of their injured stars return to the field, we'll definitely be in for more exciting stuff from the Dees.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Brisbane Lions
Brisbane may have been tipped to struggle this season but they impressed on many fronts. Their fans can hope that next year, they'll fill the gaps needed to emerge as a very difficult team to beat.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Collingwood Magpies
The 2020 season offered some peace for the Pies supporters that have waited patiently for their team to find its feet. They've begun a trajectory of improvement that, if continued, will see a dynamite team emerge to take on 2021.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Gold Coast Suns
The Gold Coast Suns were another surprise of the 2020 season, vying for the spotlight with the Saints as the best expansion side. With as many promising new players as they have veterans, the team promises hope for the Queensland club next year.
12 Apr 2020
'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: St Kilda Saints
The team Peta Searle pulled together for the Saints this year impressed game after game. The players that emerged as pillars for the inaugural side will undoubtedly continue to improve, making them a sure side to watch out for in 2021.
10 Apr 2020
'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Geelong Cats
It wasn't a bad year for the Cats, but the real hope for Geelong lies with the young players who have been part of a long-term plan for sustainability. It should be an exciting season for them in 2021 as they reach the next stage in their development.

'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Adelaide Crows
A loss of key players saw the 2019 Premiers falter in the face of more experienced sides in the 2020 season. It remains to be seen whether the Crows will benefit from this year as a learning experience, or whether the short season signalled the waning of their older players' careers.
6 Apr 2020
'By the Numbers' Team Assessment: Western Bulldogs
Having lost a number of their key players after 2019, this season was always going to be a tough one for the Dogs. All is not lost though, as their fans look towards a season that should see promising young players rise to the challenge with more experience under their belts.
4 Apr 2020

The inaugural Eagles team left eager fans deflated after a season with few highlights - a disappointment that is curbed somewhat by the hope that a focus on player development will yield a stronger future.

An early end to the season doesn’t mean we can’t assess the strengths and weaknesses of each AFLW team and their prospects for next year. The Tigers’ report card may be hard for avid fans to endure after a disappointing season, although there is always hope that they may find their feet next year.
