From Sydney universities winning NPL Grand Finals to Aussie teenagers banging home goals in Iceland, there is no cracking strike too far or heart-warming moment too brief to escape the guise of TWG's football-expert, Kristin Shaffer.
THREE BEST GOALS
3. GRACE MAHER’S EARLY GOAL
In the Úrvalsdeild Women’s League in Iceland, Grace Maher suited up for KR in their match against Keflavík. Fans did not have to wait long for a goal which happened to be Maher’s first goal of the season.
Just eight minutes into the game she netted a goal and got her team on the board first. The goal would be what the tam needed to get the momentum going for their 2-1 victory.
2. BEATTIE GOAD’S FIRST GOAL OF THE SEASON
Speaking of early goals, Beattie Goad made sure to get her team, the Stanford Cardinal, on the board early in their game as well. In the 19th minute of play Stanford was on the attack and fired in a shot on goal.
The shot was deflected but laded right at an attacker’s feet. She laid the ball off right to Goad who reared back and fired in a one touch ball sailing toward the right corner of the goal. Early goals lead to wins as Stanford takes the game 5-1.

1. NICKI FLANNERY’S PK WINNER
The NSW NPLW 1 Women’s League wrapped up play this past week with their Grand Final. Sydney University squared off against the Northern Tigers which became an instant classic. A back and forth game ended in 1-1 tie after 90 minutes.
The extra time would continue an evenly matched game sending the game to the dreaded penalty kick shootout. Sydney was up 3-1 and needed just one more goal to secure the win and the league title.
Nicki Flanery stepped up to the spot and buried the ball into the right side of the goal going the goalkeeper no chance for a save. Flannery’s goal secured the championship with a 4-1 penalty advantage.
