Voted on by the three coaches – Simone McKinnis, Di Honey and Joh Munro – Watson was a well-deserved winner of the award, the Vixens’ highest honour.

Watson collected 58 votes, 10 ahead of runner up MVP and captain of the Vixens, Kate Moloney, while goaler Mwai Kumwenda came in third on 38 votes.

Watson was surprised yet honoured to receive the award for the second time.

“I am in shock. I think this season really allowed everyone to step up and showcase their talent, so it honestly could’ve been anyone receiving this award tonight,” said Watson.

“It’s been quite a disrupted season this year with players coming in and out of the team, and I’m so proud of the way each and every player really stood up at training and matches to give us all the best shot.”

Head coach Simone McKinnis congratulated Liz on the award.

“Liz is such a deserving winner of this award after an outstanding year on the court, and to have won her second Sharelle McMahon Medal is an achievement in itself,” said McKinnis.

“She deserves the accolades that have come her way this year, not only tonight, but with her selection in the Samsung Diamonds team as well.”

“Her leadership around the club is something that comes with this honour; and with the year that was, to have the likes of Lizzy, Kate and Tegan leading the team has really helped with the small successes across the year.”
