Hockey Australia has welcomed the Coalition’s commitment to support infrastructure upgrades at high-performance facilities for Olympic hopefuls including the Hockeyroos.
The $600,000 commitment to Hockey includes providing standalone equitable change-rooms for the Hockeyroos, as part of the focus on women in sport.
It also includes upgrading the shared recovery facilities at Perth Hockey Stadium supporting both the National women’s and men’s Hockey Programmes.
“We welcome the Coalition’s commitment which supports our national teams on their pursuit of gold at Tokyo 2020," Hockey Australia CEO Matt Favier said.
"With less than 450 days until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, this would be a considerable boost for our national teams who have a decorated history at the Olympics.
“The world number three Hockeyroos will bid to win their fourth-ever Olympic gold medal in Tokyo and the world number two Kookaburras will chase their second-ever Olympic gold and 10th Olympic medal overall.”
The funding comes as part of the Morrison Government's $70 million package which includes support for the first ever International Netball Hub, a home for the Matildas and help to find Australia's best para-athletes.
