A game dominated by the Roar still had the Jets in the game for much of the match. The 2-1 scoreline does not feel like the right result, but is on brand for the majority of the W-League games this season.
Newcastle Jets
Claire Coelho - 9
Shot after shot was stopped by Coehlo. The Roar kept pressing and it seemed they would score a handful of goals, but Coehlo made diving saves to keep them out of the goal. She may have given up two goals, but compared to the 15 shots she endured is quite a feat. Easily the player of the game for the Jets.
Hannah Brewer - 6
A member of the defence that was getting outplayed by the Roar offence all game. She was able to slow down the Roar a few times, but was mainly saved by the play of Coelho in goal.
Cassidy Davis - 7.5
The right side of the Roar’s offence was less of a presence than their right side due in part to Davis. Still the Roar were attacking from all angles and Davis spent a good majority of the game chasing down attackers.
Gema Simon - 7.5
As always Simon was the heart and soul for the Jets during this game. Herself and the rest of the Jets defence got bested on multiple occasions, but were bailed out by Coehlo in net. Simon did have quality service from her corner kicks that the Jets could not finish. She also took the free kick that led to the Jets' lone goal.
Tara Andrews - 8
Opened up the scoring in the game which happened to be her first shot on goal as well as the Jets’ first shot on goal. She was all over the pitch for the Jets and a thorn in the Roar’s side as the only one to get a couple of shots on goal.
Libby Copus-Brown - 7.5
She felt like more of a defensive midfielder this game than an attacking midfielder. She like most of her teammates spent the majority of the game chasing Roar players.
Tessa Tamplin - 7
One of the players tasked with having to slow down the Roar’s left side attack. She was always in the mix and kept very busy, but was bested on multiple occasions by Raso.
