Sydney FC claim all three points in Newcastle.
Newcastle’s defence is improving
Despite the 2-0 loss, Newcastle Jets seemed much more confident in tonight’s match against Sydney FC.
They defended well against a tough Sydney opposition. The Jets worked together seamlessly to block off Sydney’s passing lanes and press quickly to win the ball back, especially in the first half. The structure and organisation of the defensive block looked better than in previous games so far this season too.
There were a few situations where the Jets gave too much time and space to their opposition numbers, and a couple of scrambling defensive moments - but overall the defence of the Jets was better than it has been previously.
Maybe this confidence comes off the back of picking up a big three points last week away in Perth - but whatever the reason, the Jets will need to keep it up and continue to improve so they can start adding some more points to the board.
