Sydney FC claim all three points in Newcastle.
Siemsen to the top
Sydney’s 2-0 win over the Jets has them sitting in second position on the ladder at the end of Round Five, only one point behind table leaders Melbourne City.
Remy Siemsen scored both goals for the Sky Blues, and now has a tally of six goals so far this season.
Her first goal came after a beautiful curling cross from Angelique Hristodoulou, which Siemsen headed into the goal with ease. The 20-year-old added a second to her name after Newcastle’s keeper Claire Coelho made an error that Siemsen was able to capitalise on.
Tonight’s win against Newcastle Jets is the third match where Remy Siemsen has scored a brace. The youngster is currently in first place for the golden boot award – she’s certainly earning her starting position in the squad, and she’s sure to continue being a vital part of Sydney’s success this season.

Newcastle’s defence is improving
Despite the 2-0 loss, Newcastle Jets seemed much more confident in tonight’s match against Sydney FC.
They defended well against a tough Sydney opposition. The Jets worked together seamlessly to block off Sydney’s passing lanes and press quickly to win the ball back, especially in the first half. The structure and organisation of the defensive block looked better than in previous games so far this season too.
There were a few situations where the Jets gave too much time and space to their opposition numbers, and a couple of scrambling defensive moments - but overall the defence of the Jets was better than it has been previously.
Maybe this confidence comes off the back of picking up a big three points last week away in Perth - but whatever the reason, the Jets will need to keep it up and continue to improve so they can start adding some more points to the board.

Latsko’s back!
Veronica Latsko took the field today for the first time in almost eight months after tearing her ACL in May earlier this year.
The American was subbed on in the 66th minute, and immediately made an impact on the game.
Within 10 minutes of entering the field the 24-year-old had almost scored, getting her toe to a through ball from Siemsen that the Newcastle keeper was just able to extinguish.
Then, with only minutes remaining, she side-footed the ball into the net after some beautiful combination play – but unfortunately for Latsko, the referee called her offside.
Latsko's discipline and hard work of months of rehab was obvious – and it already looks like she’s going to make a big impact for Sydney FC throughout the rest of the season.
