Thank you so much for your support of The Women’s Game fundraising campaign. We really appreciate everything you’ve done to help us but unfortunately, we were unable to reach the target we set.
While a little disappointing, it’s not all bad news and we’re still very happy with all we’ve been able to achieve. These campaigns have demonstrated what a loyal and passionate fan base that we, and women's football, are privileged to have here in Australia and overseas.
The Women's Game team are grateful for every bit of your support in last six months with so many of you purchasing merchandise (sometimes in both campaigns!), sharing and forwarding our campaign to friends and family, retweeting our messages or creating your own messages of support.
After reaching our first campaign target of $5,000, we were able to purchase new equipment to assist us in producing a high quality pilot which has been extremely well received with over 5,000 views on YouTube and plenty of media coverage.
$7,760 was pledged in the second campaign which is fantastic but it’s well short of the $20,000 we needed.
We set a high target for a good reason. The production costs of 15 episodes across the 2013/14 W-League season would have covered the payment of a player as host and the hire of a producer/director/editor to pull it all together. And they would have been working at well below the going rate... for the love of the game.
We think the series needs to be made and we continue to do everything we can behind the scenes; talking to the media, potential sponsors and anyone who will listen really!
We also don’t believe the cost should rest solely with the fans and crowdfunding was never going to be a permanent solution. We believe it will happen, and it’s just a matter of when. So keep talking about our show, sharing our video and know that we’re doing the same.
So what’s next?
Preparations are underway at The Women’s Game for what we know will be a very exciting Season 6 of the W-League.
As always, we are committed to providing the best coverage of women's football in Australia and this year, fans of the game can look forward to:
- A comprehensive W-League Season Guide
- Weekly post-match video interviews with players
- Match previews and reviews from our dedicated team of reporters
- Player profiles
- Match photos
- Competitions
So, who is on board?
