After a great win over China yesterday, the Stingers were ready to go up against the powerhouse home side. A strong start saw the Aussies open the scoring half way through the first quarter with captain Rowie Webster netting a penalty goal. Just before the break, Bronte Halligan scored Australia’s second goal to lead 2-0 at the first break.

The second quarter saw the Russians gain momentum going on a goal scoring frenzy, finding the back of the net seven times to the Aussies three.

At the half-time break, Russia led the Stingers 7-5, before completely controlling the game in the third quarter, keeping the Stingers scoreless while getting five past the goalkeeper themselves.

In the fourth quarter, the Aussies seemed to be on the come back with Bronte Halligan and Zoe Arancini both netting their second goals for the match, but it wasn’t enough to silence the Russians who swam home with a strong 14-8 win.

With two wins under their belt, the home side will be looking to go into their third and final group stage match against China strong to finish on top.

In the other matches, Spain defeated China 13-7, while over in Group B Canada defeated New Zealand 11-4 and the United States continued their dominance by defeating the Republic of South Africa 26-1.

Tune into watch the Stingers take on Spain in their final group stage match tonight at 9.30pm AEST (4.30pm local time) on FINAtv.
