Western Sydney's road trip to Melbourne proved a tough one, going down 3-1 to a rampant Melbourne Victory in Saturday's round 10 W-League clash.
The Wanderers started with a bang, scoring in the 2nd minute with Vanessa Hart heading home yet another classy free kick from midfielder Louise Fors.
The counter from Melbourne was quick, forcing a great save from Thora Helgadottir. Melbourne's equaliser then came in the 10th minute via a spectacular long range chip by Petra Larsson.
Welsh star Jessica Fishlock, who has been in stunning form during her short stint with Melbourne, was instrumental for the Victory, creating multiple chances and cleaning up Olivia Kennedy in a crunching late tackle. She also bounced up after a physical challenge from Servet Uzunlar.
Western Sydney skipper Sarah Walsh tweeted her praise after the game:
So what about this @jessfishlock !?Amazing player, killed us.Would love2see her back next year as the leagues marquee player or something— Sarah Walsh (@swalshy9) December 23, 2012
Melbourne's two second half goals were scored by Jessica McDonald in the 53rd and 90th minutes.
Western Sydney's destiny is now out of their hands, facing two must win games and having to rely on other results going their way to make the finals.
After a short Christmas-New Year break, the Wanderers take on last year's premiers Canberra United in a game that could make or break the season for both teams. Kick off is Saturday, January 5 at 4pm at McKellar Park in Canberra.
