Taking place in the beautiful city of Cairns, the Pan Pacific Para Championships have allowed for the Australian Dolphins Para team to gather. For Leonhardt, who suffers from hemiplegia on her right side, as well as intracranial hypertension, epilepsy and autism, is excited to be part of the team once again.

"Making the team was a big achievement for me because it is my fourth consecutive team in a row and I'm excited for Pan Pacs because it is another opportunity for me to race and compete against Sophie Pascoe," she said.

"I haven't seen her since Comm Games so I'm really keen to see how I can perform next to her again," Leonhardt said.

New Zealander Sophie Pascoe won both the S10 200 IM and SB9 100m breaststroke on the Gold Coast in April, both with Leonhardt competed in. The 17-year-old has drawn comparisons to Pascoe and got to know her personally at the Commonwealth Games, having originally competed against her in Rio.

"I really look up to Sophie," Leonhardt said.

"I guess I've said to people before I don't want to be Sophie Pascoe, I want to be me, I want to be Paige.

"I want to be able to achieve and accomplish the things Sophie has done."

While Tokyo is less than two years away and has become a big focus for many athletes, Leonhardt, who is swimming in the 100m butterfly, freestyle and breaststroke and 200 IM, wants to focus on executing her race plan.

After going over her 100m breaststroke Commonwealth Games time at the Pan Pac trials, she will be looking to put her focus on that along with butterfly, which she hasn't swum since World Championships.

"Leading into this meet I'm more focused on executing my race plan after that performing a really good time," she said.

"Probably my main focus is on the 100m breaststroke and butterfly," Leonhardt said.

The Pan Pacific Para Championships take place between August 9 and August 13 at Tobruk Memorial Pool.
