In Tokyo, Australia took gold in a come from behind victory in the 4x100 relay as Cate Campbell powered home in the final leg to beat the USA. 

It was the third gold medal for Cambell and Emma McKeon as the team touched the wall in a new championship record of 3:31.58.

The team of Campbell, Emily Seebohm, Shayna Jack and McKeon finished almost two seconds ahead of world champions the US. Australia, who are the reigning Olympic champions and world record holders, were fourth after Seebohm's first leg before Jack and McKeon ensure Campbell hit the water in second.

Ariarne Titmus became only the third woman in history to crack the four minute mark in the 400m freestyle. American great Katie Ledecky and Italy’s Federica Pellegrini are the only other two women to achieve this feat.

Titmus, who is only 17, claimed silver in a time of 3:59.66 to eclipse her own national mark.

Ledecky held out Titmus to claim in 3:58.50.
