Two-time Olympian Jessica Fox has got her 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom season off to the best possible start as she finished on top of the podium for the women’s K1.
Fox, who stormed to World Championship gold in Pau last year, qualified fastest in the semi-final, before posting a time of 101.20 in the final, almost two seconds faster than second.
“I’m really pleased with my K1 races, second in the heats, first in the semis, and then to back that up with a win is awesome,” Fox told IFC media.
“It’s always tough the first race of the season.
“There’s pressure, but there’s also this expectation that I put on myself.
"I had a great season last year, and I want to match that, I want to better that, I want to keep improving on that,” she said.
Fox now turns her focus to the C1 semi-finals but when asked about her doing the double at Liptosky Mikulas she said that she's taking it one step at a time.
"I need to make it into that final and we will have to re-evaluate the options in C1 as it is a challenging course here," Fox said.
"Time to analyse and switch into C1 mode," she said.
The 24-year-old is currently ranked number one in the event and she will be racing against younger sister Noemie who also qualified for the semi-final.
