The first round is always a tough one for obvious reasons and to add to that there's been a lot of reshuffling of the squads this year.
The first round is always a tough one for obvious reasons and to add to that there's been a lot of reshuffling of the squads this year. Only Canberra United has remained consistent and again they're going to be a tough team to crack.
Canberra United v Brisbane Roar
The Grand Final rematch is going to be far from it in my opinion. Roar are missing some key players so I think they're going to find the trip to Canberra a little unkind. United on the other hand have had the best preparation of any team and they're raring to go right out of the blocks. Canberra to win comfortably.

Adelaide United v Western Sydney Wanderers
Double plus unknown on the cards here with new outfit the Wanderers entering into the fray. However, to say Adelaide have struggled in the W-League is something of an understatement. I'd like to see them improve, both for themselves and for the good of the league. A lot of youth in both sides but I think the experience of the Matildas in the West Sydney squad will see them defeat United.
Perth Glory v Melbourne Victory
Perth has seen a return of national team talent to the squad that were noticeably missing last season. Melbourne on the other hand have lost some key players including the second highest goalscorer in the 2011/12 season though they do have some serious talent in their newly capped Matildas. Big shake-ups to both squads make this a tough one to call but my gut says it'll be all Glory.
Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets
It's a very different looking Sydney FC from last season that will take the park this weekend and the Newcastle Jets have have also undergone quite a few changes. Key for the Sky Blues is that both Captain and Coach will be in the stands serving out suspensions from last season. The squad still has the talent to bring this one home but the unknowns (to us Aussies) of the new look Jets midfield could make things interesting. As will the ex Jets now in the Sydney squad. Sydney to win.
