The Women's Game has named Cheryl Downes and Angela Bacic as its new joint Editors-in-Chief effective 16 January 2018.

Downes and Bacic take over from founder and long time EIC Ann Odong who will step away after 9.5 years with TWG.  

"The Women's Game has been one of the most rewarding enterprises I have been blessed to be a part of," said Odong.

"From a now dead Macbook in my childhood home, it started because of frustration at the lack of information regarding women's football."

"Nearly a decade later, and after witnessing the explosion in popularity of the women's game, I am proud of the role it has played in assisting to increase the promotion and coverage of women's football in Australia and in Asia."

"On a personal level, I've met amazing people from around the world, found my closest friends and been privileged to tell stories of some incredible athletes and their families."

Founded in 2008, The Women's Game has been a fixture on the Australian football landscape with its team covering:

  • all 10 seasons of the W-League

  • 2010 and 2014 Asian Cup

  • 2011 and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup

  • 2014 and 2015 Cyprus Cup

  • 2016 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers

  • 2016 Rio Olympic Games

  • 2017 Algarve Cup

  • 2017 Tournament of Nations

  • all Matildas internationals from 2008 - 2017

  • numerous AFC youth tournaments for the Young and Junior Matildas.

The Women's Game will continue with their mission of providing quality and up to date coverage of women's football at an exciting time for the game in Australia.

Structurally, TWG will be undergoing a re-vamp in the coming weeks with an announcement to be made shortly.

"TWG is in great hands with Cheryl and Angela in the EIC roles," Odong continued. "Both are so incredibly passionate about the game - everyone in the team is - and they will steer TWG through what is set to be some exciting upcoming changes."

Ann Odong will be joining Football Federation Australia in late January to work on Australia's 2013 FIFA Women's World Cup Bid.
