Newcastle Jets gain their first win of the season and first ever away win against Perth Glory
Jets miss a chance to make it three
With the score at 2-1, and with only ten minutes to go, the referee called for a penalty after spotting a handball in the box from Perth midfielder Hana Lowry. But the Jets were denied a chance to make it three after Tara Andrew’s effort was brilliantly saved by Campbell, who went low and left to parry the ball away.
The game ended at 2-1 to the Newcastle Jets, despite a dazzling effort from Celia Jimenez. The Spaniard scored what ultimately was a consolation goal for Perth in the 57th minute of the match. Celia blasted the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle on the right, but the 24-year-old’s efforts weren’t enough to get them any points from the game.
Both sides had a number of early chances, but in the end it was a hard fought win for the Jets with goals from Flannery and Andrews that made the difference.
