Much needed points for Newcastle

Before Saturday night’s game, the Jets had never won against Perth away from home, suffering five losses and five draws previously. The 2-1 triumph was the first time the Jets could claim all three points as their own in Western Australia.

The second goal that secured the win for Newcastle Jets came within the first minute of the second half. Tara Andrews, who has scored in six straight games against the Glory, had her name written on the scoresheet once again. The striker cut the ball back perfectly, with her right footed shot clipping the bar before swinging into the net.

The three points pushes Newcastle up into 5th place, overtaking Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory. With their first win of the season under their belt, Newcastle will be keen to pick up even more points against Sydney FC next week.

Perth now sit at the bottom of the ladder with neither wins nor draws from their last three games. Newcastle may have needed the points today, but Perth will need them even more next week when they take on Canberra United.
