The first ever Q-Clash certainly didn’t disappoint. It was the most nail-biting match of the round so far, ending with two teams that couldn’t be split after the final siren.
KATE LUTKINS HAS AN OUTSTANDING READ ON THE BALL
It took a while for the Gold Coast Suns to get going out of their defensive half, due in large part to the efforts of Kate Lutkins, the anchor of Brisbane’s back line.
She consistently read the ball well and positioned herself to take seemingly easy intercept marks throughout the day.
By working up the ground she was able to stop the Suns from transitioning the ball out of Brisbane’s attacking half.
GOLD COAST SUNS YOUNG GUNS STARTING TO SHINE
Some of the Sun’s young guns are starting to make a significant impact on the game with the likes of 18-year-olds Lauren Bella and Jacqui Yorston, and 19-year-old Kalinda Howarth starting to become key players in the Gold Coast Suns line-up.
With Bella dominating in the Ruck with 18 hit outs, Yorston racking up 12 disposals, and Howarth putting away three goals, the future is certainly looking bright for the Suns.
IT WAS A GAME OF TWO HALVES
Brisbane controlled the momentum in the first half scoring 4.4.23, managing to hold the Suns off the score board entirely until the second quarter. Most of the first half saw the ball in Brisbane’s forward half.
In the second half, the tables turned completely, with the home side managing to turn up the heat and close the gap.
Brisbane were only allowed to score one behind in the entirety of the second half, meaning that when the final siren sounded, the teams finished the game with a tidy 4.4.28 apiece.
