Newly in love with women's football and frustrated at being unable to find information on the W-League or the Matildas, five years ago I started The Women's Game. The aim; to provide coverage of Australian women's football to the best of my (and now our) ability.
It started in my childhood bedroom as I watched Arsenal lose to Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League, with a Macbook laptop (now proudly retired), Microsoft Word and rudimentary knowledge of the website building.
Slowly it grew as women's football grew with some small publishing support (thank you FourFourTwo's Andy Jackson) but mainly through word of mouth. Five years later this site is proudly Australia's premier source for women's football news.
Over the years some great people have joined the team including Danielle Warby, Shell Barratt, Nicole Westwood, Cheryl Downes, Emily Mogic, Dani Brady and Marianne Darr just to name a few. However the aim has remained the same; to inform the public about this great game of women's football and its stars.
Now we want to take the next step and produce a weekly women's football web series focusing on the W-League. It's never been done before but then again neither had a women's football only website!
But first we need to produce a pilot.
We already have a fantastic presenter lined up in former Matildas international and current Western Sydney Wanderers captain Sarah Walsh. Walshy has always been a generous supporter and we are pleased that she is giving us her time once again.
"Independent media, particularly online media, has played an important role in the growth of women's football in Australia and overseas," said Walsh.
"The Women's Game has continually provided great coverage of the W-League and I am excited to be involved in this project; there’s currently nothing like this out there and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together."
To raise funds for the equipment and production costs of this new endeavour, we are calling on you the women's football family to assist us in our funding campaign at www.sportaroo.com/thewomensgame.

Don't worry there is something in it for you as well.
Thanks to the support of the W-League clubs and several players such as new Matildas co-captain Clare Polkinghorne, Tameka Butt, U20 Player of the Year Stephanie Catley, we have some great merchandise and experiences on offer.
There is something there for all interests and budgets including:
- $5 "The Women's Game" sticker to show your football pride
- $30 autographed photo of W-League captains
- $70 “CU in Green” including admission ticket for every Canberra United home game and a Membership Pack
- $250 “Be a business sponsor”
- $500 “Liebe Football” signed Tameka Butt FFC Frankfurt Jersey
and much, much more…
If we attain our target for the funding of equipment, we will look to fund the full series which will run for the duration of the Australian W-League (from September 2013 to January 2014).
So help us out and the campaign page at www.sportaroo.com/thewomensgame. Business sponsors should click on the “sponsorship” tab or visit https://www.sportaroo.com/thewomensgame/sponsorship.
Let's once again show that women's football is here to stay and loved by many!
Thanks for your support.
