Shyla Heal has taken a step closer to realising her Opals dream after being selected in the 2020 Australian Senior National Team squad.
The Townsville Fire recruit had an impressive 2019/20 WNBL season for the Bendigo Spirit, winning the âMost Consistentâ award in her Opal studded team.Â
âI was so excited when I first found out,â beamed 18-year-old Heal. âItâs been one of my main goals since I was a little girl and now that it is happening it makes me so hungry to keep on developing my skills and body to compete at the highest levels.Â
Â
âIt is such a talented squad and I canât wait to train alongside the best women in our country.â
Â
Heal who has played for the Australian Under-17 and Under-19s teams over the past three years is touted as a high 2021 WNBA draft prospect.Â
Â
A spot on the Opals 2021 Olympic squad is also a possibility. If she goes to Tokyo, Heal will emulate her father, four time Olympian Shane Heal.Â
