It has been 12 years since basketball was part of the program at the Commonwealth Games and the Opals opened their account with a bang.
Australia defeated Mozambique 113-53 in Townsville last night in what was a one-sided match.
The Opals remained in charge throughout the game with Ezi Magbegor saying the team didn't want to become complacent.
"We didn't get cocky and stopped their strengths," she said.
It was the first game the side have played together with a few players making their senior debut for Australia.
Coach Sandy Brondello said while her side will need to work on their defence, there are still positives to take away from the game.
"I thought our defence, for the most part, was very good," she said
"I thought we ran the floor very well.
"We're making shots which makes us hard to guard."
The Opals will be back on the court on Sunday night where they face Canada.
