That would start McKellar’s run as the most prolific venue for W-League red cards – including the most recent for Sarah Carroll at the weekend just gone – with four players sent off at the venue. It ties with QSAC in Brisbane, while Melbourne’s AAMI Park and Gosford Stadium have had three reds each.

By far the worst offending team for red cards is Sydney FC with 11, while Queensland/Brisbane Roar has eight. Of the foundation clubs, Canberra are the W-League’s angels with only Thea Slatyer in Season 1 and Ellie Brush in Season 5. Even more impressively, Canberra did not lose either game in which their player had a red shown.

Both Canberra and Brisbane have had a red card shown to their opponent on eight occasions, with the Roar enjoying a better W-D-L record in the eight specific matches.

The business end of the season tends to attract a disproportionately high number of reds, with six reds in the 20 semi-finals played. Sydney FC account for four of those six.

The only player to be sent off in a W-League Grand Final is Melbourne Victory’s Maika Ruyter-Hooley, for her professional foul on Larissa Crummer in 2013.

The main thing missing from the rap sheet is multiple red cards in the same game. Let’s see if players are on their best behaviour from here.
