No-one rained on the Wanderers parade at Bankwest Stadium as Amy Harrison ensured Western Sydney maintained a perfect start to the season, beating Newcastle Jets 1-0.
The Wanderers began the match firmly on top with Amy Harrison pulling the trigger but failing to pierce the back of the net.
Kristen Hamilton was in fine form but Cassidy Davis was equal to with numerous blocks and clearances. Lightning forced the match to be delayed but the Wanderers resumed their dominance after the restart.
Lynn Williams had the ball in the back of the net but the assistant referee ruled her offside in a dubious call.
Williams' approach play opened up the avenues for the Wanderers as Clare Wheeler hand-balled in the box. Harrison gave the Wanderers the lead just before the hour mark.
The Wanderers make it two wins on the trot to begin the season and will travel to Brisbane next Thursday for round three.
WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS
Abigail Smith - 6
Smith wasn't tested too many times against Newcastle with her central defenders staving off attacks. She was in good form to collect high crosses and set pieces.
Courtney Nevin - 6
Nevin had a solid performance coming up against a confident Teigan Collister in the Wanderers left-back role.
Sam Staab - 6.5
Staab expressed extreme confidence in playing out from the back, spreading direct passes out to waiting attackers.
Alexandra Huynh - 6.5
Huynh showed great class in halting Newcastle's counter attacks in the first half. Her performance was worthy of keeping the Wanderers clean sheet.
Erica Halloway - 6.5
The Wanderers skipper had some shaky moments to start the first half but steadied herself once the Wanderers got a stronghold on the game.
Ella Mastrantonio - 7
Mastrantonio and Irish import Denise O'Sullivan look like they are developing a confident partnership. She assisted Williams for a goal but it was ruled offside.
Amy Harrison - 7
Harrison is occupying an advanced role in the Wanderers midfield. Her general play was very positive alongside Cooney-Cross but her she'd be disappointed with her finishing. She got her chance from the penalty spot, dispatching cooly into the bottom left corner.
Denise O'Sullivan - 6.5
Her connection with her North Carolina teammates is as strong as ever. O'Sullivan controlled the tempo and was able to pick out passes to all her attacking teammates.
Kyra Cooney-Cross - 7
For a young player she has an exceptional control of the football coupled with a great ability to pivot away from defenders and drop the shoulder.
Lynn Williams - 7
Williams was on the end of Mastrantonio's cross but her goal was disallowed. Upon replay, she'd be upset to see she was in fact behind the last defender and not offside.
Kristen Hamilton - 7
Hamilton's skill on the ball caused all sorts of problems the Jets. The American spread across the centre and left backs to stretch Newcastle's defence.
NEWCASTLE JETS
Claire Coelho - 6.5
Whilst shots were flying past her in the first half, not many of them called Coelho into meaningful action. A strong save denied Kristen Hamilton from opening the scoring.
Gema Simon - 6
Simon had to constantly look over her shoulder to mark Kristen Hamilton leaving some spaces open for Cooney-Cross.
Hannah Brewer - 6
It was a tough night for the experienced defender who would have thought she spent the entire game on the back foot shielding defenders and blocking shots.
Cassidy Davis - 6
Davis was putting her body on the line on multiple occasions to deny the Wanderers but they were under the pump for most of the match.
Tessa Tamplin - 5.5
Lynn Williams was causing most of Tamplin's problems when she cut inside onto her favoured right foot. There weren't many instances when Tamplin was quick enough to show her onto her weaker foot.
Elizabeth Copus-Brown - 5.5
Copus-Brown was struggling in the middle as O'Sullivan and Harrison glided in all directions around Newcastle's midfield.
Clare Wheeler - 6
Wheeler was nearly at fault for a Wanderers opener failing to clear a bouncing ball in the box. Lucky for her Amy Harrison's shot rocketed off the post. She regained her steel in midfield but hand-balled in the box which saw Harrison score the opener.
Nickoletta Flannery - 5.5
There wasn't much for Flannery to work with on the left flank. The Wanderers dominated the match leaving slim pickings for the winger to pick up the ball and run at the defence.
Teigan Collister - 6
Fresh from her extraordinary effort last week Collister couldn't replicate her wondrous work against the Wanderers.
Tara Andrews - 5.5
Andrews had Newcastle's first real chance, sending a header into the arms of Abigail Smith. Chances were few and far between.
Jenna Kingsley - 6
Kinglsey, who is Western Sydney born and bred, couldn't get one over the Wanderers this evening, coming up against a tough test in Staab and Huynh.
SUBSTITUTES
Lauren Allan - 6
Allan replaced Flannery early in the second half but couldn't find a spark to make an impact for Newcastle.
Panagiota Petratos - N/A
Paige Kingston-Hogg - N/A
