per_round2prevIt wasn't the best start to the season for both Perth Glory and Adelaide United. The Glory were outclassed by Canberra United in the second half to go down 4 - 1 while late goals from the Newcastle Jets handed Adelaide a 2 - 0 defeat.

It was a good positive start to the game for the Perth Glory with their star players getting into the game early. The home side controlled much of the possession and action with Katie Gill, Sam Kerr and Marianna Tabain lively early. Unfortunately the Glory couldn't capitalise on possession and, against the run of play, Canberra United scored leaving Perth to play catch up for the rest of the game.

The Glory midfielders struggled to subdue their opponents and provide much needed supply to the forwards. Defensively, the Perth side will have to put more pressure on the ball otherwise they will be punished as they were against United. The return of the world class Collette McCallum from overseas will be a big boost and with that half of the Matildas' attacking force is re-united.

Despite going down late to the Jets, Mike Barnett should be reasonably pleased with his side's first up efforts. It was a promising start for Adelaide United with their key players up and about and the Lady Reds would be disappointed that they couldn't take advantage of the various chances they created.

Adelaide played an up tempo, skilful game with the returning Victoria Balomenos, Katrina Gorry, Donna Cockayne just some of the leading players for the Reds. They will need to be good again this week against the Glory. Captain Christina Papageorgio returns to lead the Reds while last season's top scorer Racheal Quigley has been omitted maybe indicating the Reds renewed confidence from their performance last week.

The Glory have the advantage in their head to heads winning all three encounters, home and away. However, with this looks like a different Adelaide outfit and it should be a close encounter regardless.
