This match has now been moved to Sunday the 16th of January, 3.00pm EDT and will be played at Epping Stadium due to the devastating floods in Queensland.

Before the completion of last week’s matches, the Roar would have been undisputed favourites to take out this match against The Victory.

This is now not the case, as Melbourne have produced a late surge in hope for a place in the play-offs after upsetting Canberra last Saturday, through an early goal by international striker Jodie Taylor.

It was a win The Victory needed in order to regain confidence and put them in good stead for the challenging task ahead, as they take on the Westfield W-League leaders.

The Roar managed to retain the top spot after beating Sydney FC in a thrilling New Years day clash which was enough to excite fans from every team.

There’s no doubt that the Brisbane Roar will be playing this match for all those Queenslanders who have sadly been affected by the devastating floods.

Not only will this game play a vital role in the final standings of Westfield W-League 2010/11 season, it now also holds sentimental value to many of the players, as they compete for State pride more than ever.

Roar defender Karla Reuter, has been touched by this tragedy as her home town of Toowoomba was heavily affected. “I can’t express how much it will mean for all Queenslanders if the Australian football family really dug deep and donated to the flood relief, it’s going to take years for Queensland to recover from this and every cent will help,” said Reuter.

Furthermore, Football Federation Victoria & Melbourne Victory have generously offered to donate all gate takings from this match to the Queensland flood appeal.
