The NPL Queensland has produced a number of W-League stars and is seen as a new pathway to the W-League. The Gap has once again claimed the NPL Women’s championship title along with the Premiership.
Name: Noran Abaza
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: The Gap
After training and trailing with the Brisbane Roar for last season, Noran would have been disappointed with not being selected. The Gap is known for their women’s team and ability to produce W-League players, she moved from Souths to The Gap to learn from the best coach in the league, Rob Askew. Her shot stopping ability could match those of goalkeepers in the W-League.
Name: Kirsten Jamieson
Position: Forward
Club: Olympic FC
The NPL has been asking all season long where Jamieson has come from. After giving the game away due to a family tragedy at the age of 17, she has come back to the game she loves. Despite being 27 years old, she can match it with the young ones. Her ability to read the game and weave through defended who are younger then her shows that she only gets better with age. Jamieson determination could be the selling point for her W-League call up.
Name: Talitha Doro
Position: Winger
Club: The Gap
She faced Brisbane Roar last season as part of the NPL Select team and knows what it takes to make it to the top. She was once apart of the U-17 Australian team when she was playing for South West Thunder. Doro has developed in The Gap side and was a standout in the NPL Grand final. Her speed down the sideline can cause trouble for her opponents and can place a cross in the box with ease. She has the skills, ability and determination to make it in the W-League and could make a difference at all clubs.
Name: Greta Bodey
Position: Forward
Club: The Gap
The first things you notice from watching Bodey is her ability to pass and move into open space to get receive a space. She positions herself where she is needed from a team and does what her team needs to win. Last season she was applying her work ethic to UQ’s team but now she is playing with some of the best women footballers in the competition. The way Bodey plays is rarely seen these days, and with 32 goals in 21 games, she could make a difference to any W-League squad.
