Despite a strong start, Aussie hopeful Aija Tomljanovic has fallen at the first round of the French Open.
World No.4 Elina Svitolina won in straight sets (7-5 6-3) and kept her hopes alive of becoming world No.1 if she wins the tournament.
The victory wasn't without a hiccup though as Tomljanovic raced to a 5-1 lead but was unable to close it out with a double-fault on her only set point.
Svitolina came roaring back and was able to win eight games in a row which saw the Ukrainian lead by a set and a break.
A fightback was mounted from Tomljanovic as she levelled the set at 2-2.
The decisive moment of the game came in the second set when Svitolina broke serve and went on to serve out the win after one hour and 29 minutes.
