Girls Make Your Move is a campaign that aims to make young women feel inspired, energised and empowered to be more active regardless of ethnicity, size or ability.

Over half of girls aged 15-17 years do no or low levels of physical activity, which is almost 60 percent higher than boys of the same age.

Young women, while generally less active, do have a higher participation rate in non-sports activities including walking, going to the gym and swimming.

However, barriers like poor health, a lack of time and other commitments have hindered young women from being able to participate in sport and non-sport activities.

There are also social issue which need to be addressed in order to help make a change.

Young women don’t want to be judged or ridiculed, and they can be self-conscious about how they might look when exercising,

Encouraging girls to find a physical activity or sport they enjoy and to stick to remains a key objective.

The campaign has seen great success so far with 83 percent of young women aged 12-19 years being reached by the campaign and of those 23% of girls have become more active as a result of seeing the campaign.

Girls Make Your Move is committed to encouraging all Australian young women to get moving and to be active.
