Perth Glory my oh my.

In a stunning display the Glory easily overcame a frustrated Sydney FC winning 5-0 in Wollongong against a backdrop of thunderous stormy skies.

The opening 10 minutes saw a flurry of gasps as both teams tested the goalkeepers in an avalanche of shots and forward pressing.

Then Sydney conceded the first goal.

An unstoppable Caitlin Foord charged forward expertly drawing defenders before cutting the ball across to a sliding Sam Kerr at the far post.

It was textbook football from two class players. Sydney could do little but watch it unfold. The beautiful clear blue skies of the morning quickly forgotten as rain continued to tumble.

Sydney however remained focused on finding an equaliser.

After withstanding some pressure they appeared to be back in command until a soft penalty saw Glory take another goal and Sydney dropped their heads.

From there the onslaught continued with Foord sending in a blinder before the first half and Kerr ruthlessly finding two more for her first W-league hat-trick before the final whistle.

Four goals scored against Sydney FC by their former golden girls. The sky blue side only with themselves to blame.

Samantha Johnson in the unenviable role of marking Kerr fell a step behind on too many occasions allowing crosses to encroach. Lizzie Ralston's entrance was able to stifle a few Glory moves but all in all the battle for the flanks was won by Perth.

Kerr and Foord both able to beat two to three players when in flight, Sydney were not doing enough to physically hustle the twosome out of contention for the ball.

Good signs for Sydney was Trudy Camilleri who had another huge game and was a standout. Alongside fiery captain Teresa Polias, the two presented as the most capable of holding up the ball when smothered by a hands-on Glory.

Casey Dumont had returned from injury but looked uncertain on the field. Dumont not quite first to the ball, a few fumbles, the keeper appeared reluctant in decisions and not her usual self.

Kyah Simon made her much-anticipated return to huge cheers from the purple and blue crowd alike. But her arrival not enough for Sydney who were a team preparing for a loss.

An exciting game for Perth fans and a lively action-filled match-up. The high scoring antics of past Sydney v Perth battles was back - much to the concern of Sydney fans in this case.

Sydney FC are not used to losing and certainly not to such a hefty scoreline, they will need to regroup. Usually dealing out these sort of losses, perhaps getting a taste of their own medicine is the wake up call required.

Can Sydney FC rise above this challenge with finals pressure around the corner?

Perth Glory have never looked so match fit, dangerous and sharp. Their defensive mishaps early in the season a distant memory as Alanna Kennedy and Bronwyn Studman work cohesively with Mackenzie Arnold.

If Glory maintain this energy and Kerr keeps firing we may see a big Grand Final blowout. No other team this season has been able to match the Glory's recent creativity in attack or has the technical aptitude to execute.

The only question mark around Perth Glory is delivering at crunch time. Finals football has been their Achilles heel but if there has been a Glory side to overcome this, it will be the 2014 Premiers.
