Round 2 of the W-League saw unexpected leaders Perth Glory and the Newcastle Jets continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Meanwhile defending champions Melbourne City claimed their first win in the Melbourne Derby and the Western Sydney Wanderers snatched an injury time winner at home.

Melbourne City 2 – 1 Melbourne Victory

The last time these two sides met in the Melbourne Derby, despite the dominance of City during the match, Victory came away with the three points.

This time around City still were in control in the proceedings but it took until the 83rd minute for Patrick Kisnorbo's side to break the deadlock.

Through the brilliant Kinga, City controlled the pace and flow of the game but were unable to unlock an organised Victory defence.

Despite several chances, it took until the substitution of Rhali Dobson into the match for the chances to fly thick and fast with Dobson putting in an inch perfect cross.  Defender Rebekah Stott met it at the back post to finally breach the Victory defence.

Laura Alleway had a late chance to equalise only to see her effort tipped by Lydia Williams before being cleared off the line.

Stat of the Match:  City dominated possession with 72.8% recording 20 shots on goal but despite that Victory recorded more shots on target (7)

Western Sydney Wanderers 2 – 1 Adelaide United

In an ebbing and flowing contest, the Wanderers recorded their first win at home in Season 10.

Busy last week, Lo'eau LaBonta was again one of the key players for Wanderers and she opened the scoring after taking advantage of a corner.  The ball fell out to the American who fired home from 16 yards out.

Minutes later fellow American Makenzy Doniak made a solo run only to shoot over Jada Whyman's bar.

Not long after Doniak had her goal as a low cross found her feet and the striker turned and slotted home for the equaliser.

In the second half LaBonta went close to a second with another effort from distance.  This time Adelaide keeper Eliza Campbell made an equally good save to deny the FC Kansas City midfielder.

The match remained a tight contest in the second half before late in injury time Kahlia Hogg's free kick took a deflection before being followed up by Rosie Sutton who turned the ball home.

Newcastle Jets 2 – 0 Sydney FC

The Newcastle Jets made the perfect start to their encounter with Sydney FC as Nikola Orgill gave them the lead with the supporters barely settled.

An early cross found Orgill at the back post with the versatile midfielder heading home from close range.

Minutes later the Sky Blues looked to go level only for Remy Siemsen to be denied by the near goalpost from 16 yards out.

The Jets doubled their lead in the 29th minute from a set piece with Tori Huster's corner finding the head of Arin Gilliland with the Chicago Red Stars midfielder heading home.

Second half action saw the Jets again on the attack with Katie Stengel forcing a save from Sham Khamis.

Sydney looked to rally through Lisa De Vanna and Chloe Logarzo but goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom denied the latter on the counter attack.

In the end the Jets midfield and defence held strong for a 2-1 win.

Brisbane Roar 1 – 4 Perth Glory

Perth Glory continued their strong start to the season with a 4-1 win but it took until the 42nd minute for last season's grand finalists to get on the board.

Captain Sam Kerr made the most of an errant pass playing in striker Rachel Hill who finished well for the lead.

Perth almost immediately gave up the advantage less than 60 seconds later when Melissa Maizels was caught in two minds when facing a Katrina Gorry free kick.  The goalkeeper parried the ball into the path of Clare Polkinghorne with the Roar captain heading home.

Perth suffered a big blow late in the half when key midfielder Nikki Stanton left the pitch with what the Glory staff suspect is a broken arm.  Stanton is due to undergo x-rays to determine the extent of the damage.

After the break it was all Glory as Bobby Despotovski's side put the screws on.

Hill took advantage an hour in when Raquel Rodriguez's strike from distance was parried by Mackenzie Arnold into the path of the waiting striker who made no mistake.

Arnold and Kerr then engaged in the 1v1 battle with Arnold coming off the better on two occasions before the third saw the Roar goalkeeper adjudged to have brought down Kerr.  The forward emphatically finished to double Glory's lead.

Hill then put an exclamation mark on the win when her low drive in the 83rd minute evaded several bodies in the box to find the bottom right corner claiming her hattrick.

Stat of the Match:  For her goals, Rachel Hill recorded 9 shots on goal with 8 of those shots inside the box and 6 shots on target.
