Last round Sydney FC got their season back on track with an important 2-1 defeat of neighbours Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium. Meanwhile Perth Glory experienced a heavy 4-0 loss at the hands of a razor sharp Melbourne City.

After two losses in a row, the Sky Blues 2-1 win over their Western Sydney rivals will prove to be a key moment for the team to re-focus and settle into the competition.

Stand-out performances by Teresa Polias in the midfield and Leena Khamis' efforts up top saw half chances converted into goals.

Unlike previous rounds Sydney were finally capitalising on all their possession.

Polias' corner kicks and Sydney's set pieces are becoming increasingly organised giving the side an edge not seen thus far this season.

A late Wanderers goal and shaky finish did nothing to dull the shine of the win as the Sky Blues rejoiced to secure their first 3 points of the season.

Perth Glory's 4-0 trumping may or may not be of relevance for the Glory as many W-league sides can expect to see similar scorelines when coming up against the heavily talent-laden City.

Of most concern for Glory will be the loss of Caitlin Foord to injury. Foord's capacity to turn defence into attack is unmatched and Perth rely on her speed in transition.

Sam Kerr was able to test City 'keeper Trudy Burke time and time again forcing saves but without last season's top goalscorer Kate Gill to assist Kerr has become more of an independent operator.

The Glory came inches close to the big trophy last season losing in the Grand Final after a very impressive season.

Having one hand on the trophy, only to lose it in the final game, drives this Perth side forward for glory.

US superstar goalkeeper Michelle Betos should be back on deck from injury for Sydney FC and last season's golden boot Jasmyne Spencer is absolutely itching to open her account.

Over time Sydney have been building a strong local crowd at Lambert Park in Leichhardt and will be aiming for another sell out for this crucial game on home turf.

The last time Sydney and Perth met it was in a decidedly one-sided semi final that Glory comfortably won 3-0.

This season sees a more evenly matched dual. However these teams have a roller-coaster history of whacky high scoring affairs (11-0 Sydney, 7-5 Perth) that is guaranteed to thoroughly entertain even the casual W-league viewer.
