Goals from Marianna Tabain and Alanna Kennedy saw Perth Glory maintained their 100% league record, against a resilient Newcastle Jets side in Round 2 of the W-League.

The west coast side secured, yet another, 2-1 win with Tara Andrews grabbing a consolation goal in the 62nd minute for the home side.

In stark contrast, Adelaide United are yet to score points on the ladder, with two defeats to their name thus far. An impressive Canberra United side were too strong for the Lady Reds claiming a 1-0 victory at Adelaide Shores Football Centre.

Perth head into the game against Adelaide full of confidence after getting a first away win under their belts. The journey to Newcastle is the longest trip in the W-League calendar, making the voyage an unenviable one for players and staff alike.

A five hour plane ride -which departed Perth at 4.30am- was followed by a 3 hour bus journey from Sydney to Newcastle. The long journey looked to have left the Glory players a little jaded, as they got off to a slow start.

However, they showed their sprit, steel and staying power with both goals coming in the latter stages of the first half. The win on the road will only enhance expectations surrounding Glory this season, as they look to break into the top four.

In spite of two sensational performances, Sam Kerr is yet to get her name on the score sheet. However, her pace, determination and skill has made both the Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets defences wince with fear. The Adelaide defence will have to be at their best to stop Kerr and strike partner Kate Gill from taking centre stage on Saturday.

As well as an electrifying forward line, Glory have also used their wings to great effect this season. Full back Sarah Carroll and midfielders Tabain, Foord and McCallum have supplied endless balls in to the forward pair with an array of pin point passes.

The Lady Reds will need to eradicate this from the home sides play in order to have any chance of taking the 3 points away from Ashfield Reserve.

After a tough start to season 7, the away side will be desperate to get their first points on the board. Defeats to Sydney FC and Canberra United, respectively, have resulted in a -3 goal difference with United yet to get on the score sheet. Adelaide will be hoping to break that duck against a Perth side who have concede in both of their games so far.

With a solid goalkeeper in Melissa Barbieri, an attacking minded midfielder in Emily Condon and a natural goal scorer in Moore, Adelaide do possess a threat to Perth’s perfect start.

In spite of recent results, the team have been organised and have provided tough tests for both Sydney and Canberra. The Reds are no longer an easy 3 points and Perth will have to be at their attacking best to ensure victory.

The statistics state that Adelaide don’t travel to the west well. This fixture has been played 10 times with Perth claiming 9 victories. The Reds will be hoping to improve that stat during Saturday’s game.
