Last round Sydney FC felt the sting of Perth Glory with an unprecedented 5-0 loss on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile the Newcastle Jets secured a confident 2-0 win over Adelaide United with goalkeeper heroics the only thing keeping Jets from adding more to the tally.

Sydney FC struggled to contain Glory's high intensity and physical play with pace lacking across the Sky Blue backline to contain the fast Perth forwards.

A similar problem may arise again as Jets boast a sprightly squad with a pacey forward/midfielder combination.

Sydney's arsenal however is far reaching.

Teresa Polias has been a dominant force all season and her resolve to take her team to finals was written all over her face last weekend.

Trudy Camilleri, Nicola Bolger and Amy Harrison have also started to create more chances and control the momentum of the game with a consistent sensible attack.

Harrison just needs to find the audaciousness to take on defenders 1v1 more often to open up opportunities and earn free kicks.

When Sydney and Jets' last met, US striker Jasmyne Spencer was rewarded for her pressure on the defence with a goal, converting calmly from an error. Expect more goals from Sydney's current golden boot and fan fave.

Key players for Sydney against an aggressive Jets will be in the defensive structure notably on the shoulders of Renee Rollason and Alesha Clifford in the central back.

Rollason's accuracy to threaten from free kicks is also crucial, particularly against a young and inexperienced Jet's goalkeeper.

Casey Dumont was looking hesitant upon her return from injury last week and the Sky Blues will need her to be in top flight to keep Jets out.

Newcastle Jets had a mixed start this season but came to the party when needed most with a solid 2-0 win over a waning Lady Reds.

A key change for the Jets in Season 7 has been their capacity to thrive under pressure, rather then buckle under it.

Players to look out for this round will be the continued form of US import Tori Huster who has had an outstanding season commanding the midfield and scoring goals.

If Huster's clever tricks combined with Emily van Egmond's danger from 20 yards isn't enough. Throw roadrunner striker Rhali Dobson into the mix and you have a recipe for goals.

Newcastle Jets have a great formula this season with a well-balanced central midfield complimented by a rocket striker.

The Jets are also coming off a weekend break due to a split round so players will be rested and raring to go.

It seems a lifetime ago that these two last met when so much has changed.

A very close affair in Round 5 saw Sydney FC narrowly victorious 1-0 on Jets home turf. Sydney FC fairly fortunate to gather 3 pts from the encounter with Dumont working very hard for 90 mins to keep Sydney safe.

The Round 12 fixture could not have fallen much better for a dramatic finish as finals football is on the line for both teams.

A draw or win will keep Sydney safe but nothing less then a win will see Jets comfortable. A draw enough to put Jets in fourth place but finals will be dependant on the outcome of Canberra United's meeting with Perth Glory.

An absolute shame this important game will not be televised for all W-league fans. Highly recommend Jets fans pack up the car and make the trip south to join Sydney-siders to witness a monumental occasion for both teams.

The 'Jets v Sydney' event used to be a mismatch in the realm of David and Goliath but never have the odds been stacked so even.

A win for Sydney resulting in their 7th finals series campaign, a win for Jets resulting in their first ever W-League finals berth since Season 1.
