It was a crucial clash for both sides, who came into this match occupying third and fourth place on the ladder.

However, a visiting and unusually flat Sunshine Coast Lightning were downed 19-9 in the first quarter.

Lightning found their groove in the second quarter, shortening the 10-goal gap to just five before suffocating defence from Lightning in the third term saw the score leveled at 40-40 heading into the final minutes of the quarter.

The third quarter finished 45-43 but the final saw the teams going goal for goal but it wasn't enough for a determined Swifts.

“That was a game that we probably would have lost last year so to see us come through is very pleasing,” Head Coach Briony Akle said.

“I was delighted that we managed to come back and see off a champion side, despite us getting a big early lead go, we held strong at the end.

“We led that game from start to finish and even when they were on top we were still in the lead, and that belief was what got us through in the end,” she said.

In the other games, the Queensland Firebirds had a 66-42 win and the Giants defeated the Magpies 63-60.
