The Melbourne Vixens have turned the race for the Suncorp Super Netball championship on its head with a 74-60 win over West Coast Fever.
It was the second loss of the season for Fever who still sit six points clear at the top of the table.
A second-quarter 26-13 hatchet job from the home side rattled Fever, forcing them into desperate long lobs and uncharacteristic turnovers.
The Fever composed themselves and fought back hard in the third quarter as they claimed a vital bonus point but falling 20 goals behind was a mountain too big to climb.
“Vixens have played this strong style for so long and I guess that’s why they’re so deadly on their home court,” Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich said.
“After halftime, I felt we came back and then saw some good movement of our ball when hitting the circle edge and then getting good ball supply to Jhaniele.
“Losing is only a bad thing if you don’t learn from it and this is something where we will take back and learn from it, and make sure we execute because no game is easy in this competition,” she said
While Fever have been defeated twice on the road, they head back to Perth next weekend and will hope to remain undefeated at home.
