It's one apiece for the Queensland Firebird and NSW Swifts as they Firebirds ran out 60-57 in a tense clash this afternoon.
Dubbed the 'State of Origin', as both teams from the Origin states, the Firebirds exacted revenge on the Swifts for an earlier one-point defeat at the start of the season.
The Firebirds took the lead at the first break before Sophie Garbin was brought into the contest to replace Wallace as goal shooter for the Swifts in the second quarter.
The youngster had an immediate impact, but the Firebirds managed to grind out another bonus point and take a 29-26 lead into the halftime break.
While the third quarter saw the Firebirds struggle to get points on the board, it was the fourth quarter which would prove to be critical in winning the match.
Some strong work from Tara Hinchliffe handed the Firebirds the roll they needed, pushing the advantage out to six as Laura Geitz delivered some brilliant turnovers to keep her side in the lead.
Just as it went in round one between the two teams, the Swifts threatened with a late charge to try steal the win as they got within two goals late in the final quarter, but there were to be no heroics this time, with the Firebirds able to close it out.
