Star Western Sydney Wanderers USA import Abby Smith was amazed by Bankwest Stadium for the Matildas record-breaking match against Chile. Tonight, she'll get to play there herself.
“We went to the Matildas game when they played there and it’s beautiful, oh my gosh,” Smith told Matildas.com.au.
“When we were watching the game I was like ‘holy moly this is so nice."
The Wanderers kick off their first match at Bankwest Stadium in a double-header tonight against Newcastle Jets at 5pm AEST.
It's a huge moment for the club as they continue to develop into W-League powerhouses, after huge international signings from the NWSL over the offseason.
But while Lynn Williams - set to debut - Kristen Hamilton and Denise O'Sullivan have stolen much of the limelight, their last-minute international goalkeeper is set to play an inspiring role.
“I think it will be nice to open up at Bankwest with the double-header.
“I don’t know too much about (Newcastle). We’ve been focussing on ourselves and making ourselves better,” Smith said.
“We’ve been hammering down what we want to focus on going into this game.”
It was her phenomenal first-half display that kept Western Sydney in the game against Adelaide United in their 2-1 opening win.
After the devastating injury blow to Jada Whyman, she's set to play a massive role in Western Sydney's title hopes this season.
