The first time, Manu’a was sent from the court for two minutes during play, and the Giants could not replace her in goal defence. It didn’t help that it was in the Rebel Power 5.

The second send-off was for the late clash on Lightning wing attack Laura Scherian, with nine minutes to go in the final term.

The new ruling was that Manu’a was to sit off the game for the rest of the match, with the Giants unable to replace her in goal defence for the rest of the match. From there all the Giants could do is keep the ball in their possession for as long as possible, because as soon as it went to the lightning, they would score hard and fast.

With a combination of the super shot, Lightning was able to bridge a comeback and win in a thrilling one-point victory.

This was the first time in the history of Super Netball that any player has been sent off, let alone twice.

Credit where credit is due, Giants goalkeeper, Sam Poolman was excellent trying to defend two of the best Australian shooters.

Being able to prevent the two-point shot and forcing Wood and Koenen to go for the one.
