"In my opinion, New Zealand are a bit cocky in terms of what they put in the media," she said.

"They haven't played our new side much so I think it'll be quite a good match-up.

"Our first game was disappointing, but we're building," Claxton said.

New Zealand beat Ghana 12-0 in their match while Australia came away with a 5-0 win last night neither side losing a match, New Zealand's draw against Canada their only belimsh so far while Australia is yet to concede a goal.

Asked whether the side will take notice of the Kiwi's winning margin against Ghana, Claxton said she it was yes and no.

"We watched that game and New Zealand allowed Ghana a good opportunity so their defence is just as susceptible as ours may be," she said.

Either way, it will be one of the toughest matches for the Hockeyroos in the Pool matches, having recently defeated them in the Oceanian Cup in October last year with a 2-1 win in the group match before a 2-0 in the Final.

New Zealand has also never defeated Australia is women's hockey since the inception of the sport at the 1998 Games in Malaysia but at Rio 2016, they defeated the Hockeyroos in the quarterfinals.

Stephanie Kershaw said Australia won't have to change much in order to beat New Zealand.

"We know each other's game so well," she said.

"I think we play better when we're playing against harder teams, and New Zealand are above us in world rankings.

"We have a point to prove against them," Kershaw said.
