Sydney FC has appointed Daniel Barrett as their new head coach following the elevation of Alen Stajcic to the position of Matildas head coach earlier this week.

Barrett becomes just the second head coach of the Sky Blues and will lead the team for the remainder of the 2014 season following a two week transition period with Stajcic.

“The standards have been set at Sydney FC with Alen Stajcic and his time in charge," said Barrett.

“I’m well aware of what they are having worked with Alen for many years, so I want to make sure that those standards and expectations stay the same.  If they do then results will stay the same."

No stranger to the Sky Blues club and players, Barrett was assistant to Stajcic during Sydney's 2012/13 Championship season and has spent the last couple of seasons coaching at the Central Coast's  International Football School on the Central Coast.

Departing foundation coach Stajcic believes his successor has the knowledge and experience to continue to lead the two time champions.

“It’s great to have someone like Dan come into the team,” he said.

“Having already worked as an assistant with the team for two years, he is well versed in the philosophy and playing style of the group and has great energy to take the team to the top again.”

Barrett will assist Stajcic in Sydney FC's next two matches before taking over the role full time in the Sky Blues Round 5 encounter with the Newcastle Jets.
