Defending W-League champions Canberra United have retained the services of all time leading W-League goalscorer Michelle Heyman.
The forward, who has been a key part of both of Canberra's championships, has signed for her sixth season with United.
“It’s great news that Michelle has agreed to return to Canberra for the 2015/2016 Westfield W-League season,” said Canberra United CEO Heather Reid.
“Michelle was an integral part of our successful title winning side last season and we are delighted that our negotiations for Season 8 have been successful.”
As well as being a two time championship and premiership winner with Canberra, the 27 year old is also a two time Golden Boot winner with an overall tally of 50 goals in 75 W-League matches.
It is no surprise then that the Matildas striker was one of the key targets for new team Melbourne City with her signature a coup for Canberra.
As well as Heyman, Canberra United it set to retain many of their squad from last season, as they have in previous seasons.
New head coach Rae Dower will have some additional squad room, particularly with internationals with the retirement of Lori Lindsey, the ACL injury to Stephanie Ochs and the anticipated return of Lydia Williams forcing out Heyman's American teammate Chantel Jones.
“We are currently in discussion with a number of players who have indicated an interest in coming to Canberra United for the new season of Westfield W-League football,” Dower commented.
“The process of signing players will begin shortly and we will release information when we have it.”
Heyman is currently in the USA playing for the Western New York Flash in the NWSL where her debut match saw her named the Player of the Week.
Canberra United will have the opportunity to defend their W-League title in mid October.
