It may be a distant memory now, and maybe some fans have forgotten it even happened in 2017 but six days into 2017, Brisbane Roar captain Clare Polkinghorne became the first W-League player to reach 100 games.

Not only is 100 appearances impressive but Polkinghorne did it at one W-League club, a feat only achieved by three other players.

It was going to be close to see who made it to 100 first. Ellie Brush remained on 99 appearances after an injury, while Teresa Polias and Marianna Tabain were also within sight of the milestone.

Polkinghorne's W-League career has been one marked by longevity, consistency and calm leadership.

The defender began her W-League career as a 19-year-old in the then Queensland Roar outfit  who went on to win the inaugural W-League Premiership and Championship double.

From there, she has continued to be an integral member of the squad having been club captain since 2009.

Polkinghorne continues to keep some of Australia's best attackers at bay and her perfectly timed tackles are hallmark of her play.

Since reaching the milestone Polkinghorne has been joined by a host of W-League players including:

  • Ellie Brush

  • Marianna Tabain

  • Teresa Polias

  • Ashleigh Sykes

  • Tameka Butt

In 2018, Polkinghorne could be ready to break another record as she looks to become the first W-League 100 club member to reach 100 appearances for the Matildas.
