From the first announcement in May 2015 to their championship win, Melbourne City shook up the W-League in 2015/16.
The newest W-League club signalled an intention to have nothing but the best; the best Australian players, best internationals, best young players and best facilities.
Coach Joe Montemurro and inaugural signing Matildas co-captain Lisa De Vanna assembled a world class team that included Matildas regulars Steph Catley and Laura Alleway, capped internationals Kim Little, Rebekah Stott and Jessica Fishlock as well as Young Matildas.
For much of 2015/2016 they succeeded with City going on a W-League record 18 match unbeaten streak. A streak that included claiming the 2015/16 premiership and winning the 2016 W-League Grand Final in imperious style.

Along the way they outscored their opponents 45-7 and produced some of the best football the W-League has seen in its 9 season history. City continued their run into the 2016/17 season before being halted by Canberra United after 1 year, 1 month, 22 days (419 days).
Off the pitch Melbourne City also unveiled stunning new facilities the envy of the W-League.

Look at that beautiful, beautiful boot room!
While City may have lost a wheel or three in the past couple of weeks, they are still one of the best teams in the competition and have already made an indelible mark on the W-League.
