Considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Williams has helped Australia to the 2014 AFC Women's Asian Cup silver medal and the quarter finals of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

She will replace former Matildas goalkeeper Brianna Davey between the posts.

“Lydia is an excellent goalkeeper and a fantastic addition to our squad. She has a lot of W-League and international experience and has great leadership qualities,” said head coach Joe Montemurro.

“She’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world and I am delighted to have her on board for our title defence this season.”

Lydia Williams spent the W-League off-season playing for the Houston Dash in the NWSL where she was the winner for Save of the Week in Round 5 and Round 19.
