Two time defending champions Melbourne City have strengthened their squad with the signing of Matildas forward Kyah Simon for the 2017/18 W-League.

Simon joins City after seven seasons with Sydney FC that included the 2009 and 2010–11 Premierships and the 2009 and 2012–13 Championships.

“I’m really excited to start my career with City. I’m always looking for different challenges and ways to push myself and improve my game," said Simon.

"Coming here and having the opportunity to be part of a Club which has raised the standard of football in Australia is going to do just that."

As well as club honours with the Sky Blues, Simon has also racked up personal honours including the 2010–11 Golden Boot, Julie Dolan Medal for Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

The 26 year old is currently fourth on the all time W-League goalscorers table with 40 goals.

Internationally the Matildas striker has represented Australia over 50 times and has scored several crucial goals for the senior team including the 2010 Asian Cup winning penalty and at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Simon's addition to the squad provides further leadership and international experience to already well credentialed Melbourne City squad.

“Kyah is an exceptional player who has experience both in the W-League and at international level for the Matildas," Kisnorbo said.

"To have a player of Kyah’s stature join us ahead of our title defence gives us a fantastic boost. Not only has Kyah achieved an enormous amount on the field, but she has played a massive role in the development of women’s football and is a role model for all young aspiring female footballers.”

Melbourne City start their third title defence in a grand final rematch against Perth Glory at nib Stadium.
