USSoccer.com today announced that the Westfield Matildas will take on set to take on the U.S. Women’s National Team on Sunday, 16 September in the US's second post-2012 London Olympics international friendly.  Played at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California, it will another stern test for Tom Sermanni's squad following their July friendly with World Champions Japan.

"It's always a terrific chance for us to play a team of the calibre of the US," said Sermanni. 

"It's always a great experience to play a US team that is potentially going to win a Gold medal at the Olympics and the number one team in the world."

The match is set to be a homecoming of sorts for a number of WNT players including superstar forward Alex Morgan (Diamond Bar), Amy Rodriguez (Lake Forest), Shannon Boxx (Redondo Beach) and Rachel Buehler (Del Mar).

While the US will be coming of an Olympics campaign, for the Australian players its another opportunity to take on a world class side and  Sermanni is utilising this match as another step towards the 2015 Women's World Cup. 

"This is the start of the build up and start of the competition within our squad for 2015 because that is going to come around very quickly."

In relation to personnel for the match against the United States?

"I think it will be a mixture.  We are going to have a camp in August and from that camp I will have a better idea of the type of squad we will be taking to US."

"I believe there will be a full compliment of players available decisions will need to made closer to the date in relation to match fitness and other factors."

The U.S. holds an impressive 19-0-2 record against Australia in the series, which started with a 6-0 win on Dec. 16, 1987, in Taipei, Taiwan. The two teams last met on June 15, 2008, with the USA earning a 2-1 victory against Australia in Suwon, South Korea.

The match will be broadcast live on NBC and ticket information available will be announced in the near future.
