The June 25 clash at the Estadio Nuevo Colombino in Huelva will pit superstar Sam Kerr against the two players who finished above her in the voting for the 2021 women's Ballon d'Or award.

It will also give defender Ellie Carpenter the chance to face off against the Spanish pair just a month after her Lyon team takes on Barcelona in this season's UEFA Women's Champions League final.

The match against Spain is set to be one of two friendlies for Tony Gustavsson's team in the June window as the Matildas continue preparations for the 2023 Women's World Cup on home soil.

The game is also a key warm-up for Spain ahead of the Women's Euro 2022, kicking off on July 6.

"When it comes to the women's game right now, Spain is one of the leading nations in world, whether it's club or national team football," Football Australia chief executive James Johnson said.

Spain will be the seventh top-10 nation Australia will have faced during Gustavsson's tenure.

The details of Australia's second friendly fixture in June will be announced in coming days.
