A picture of the Matildas 2013 international friendly calendar is starting to form with news trickling through of the first Matildas matches under new coach Hesterine de Reus.
On 11 April The Canberra Times reported the Matildas were set to take on New Zealand as a continuation of their Trans-Tasman rivalry.
Historically it is a rivalry that Australia has dominated with the Matildas last year clinging onto an 18 year unbeaten streak over the Football Ferns. Matches between Australia and New Zealand, in any sport, are always keenly contested and it will be even more so with several Kiwis integral components of their W-League teams.
A date for the match, or even a series of matches, is yet to be announced however an FFA spokesman indicated an announcement was imminent as is the final "exciting calendar of events" for the national team.
One match that is set to go ahead is the anticipated clash with de Reus' home country, the Netherlands. Last night the Royal Dutch Football Association announced their women's national team (ranked 14) will be hosting Australia on 29 June 2013.
Played in the Tata Steel Stadium in Velsen-Zuid, the match is one of two final tune up games for Oranje before they contest the Women's European Championships in Sweden.
Australia and the Netherlands have clashed twice in their history with their last match in the Peace Queen Cup in October 2006. On that occasion a 65th minute Sarah Walsh goal was the difference between the two sides.
Meanwhile this weekend the Young Matildas continue their preparation for the AFC U19 Girls Championships in November this year by hosting South Korea at the AIS on Sunday (14 April).
The first in at three match series, the Young Matildas will take on one of the powerhouse teams in junior women's football with the South Koreans former bronze medallists at the 2012 FIFA U20 World Cup.
The second match will be behind closed on Wednesday 19 April before the final match, open to the public, on 22 April.
Kick off is 3pm at the AIS. For more information contact Capital Football.
