Australia finished their 2015 AFC U19 Championship campaign on a positive note with a 2-0 win over Uzbekistan in Nanjing, China.

Goals from Ayesha Norrie and Chloe O'Brien meant the Aussies finished the tournament with 3 points and in third place in Group A.

“It was a steady performance from my team after losing the first two games, they were a little bit down but it was a composed showing today,” head coach Ante Juric told the-afc.com.

“We were happy what with we saw in our girls at this tournament and we’re looking to develop a pool of strong players going forward.”

Juric rung the changes following Australia's elimination from the tournament with only Tara Pender remaining from the starting line up that took on China on Thursday.

From the first to the final whistle the Young Matildas were on top in the contest despite an early ankle injury to vice captain Olivia Price with Alex Chidiac taking her place in the midfield.

The Young Matildas first sight of goal came not long after as Jordan Baker’s effort was re-directed onto the woodwork by Pender.

The Aussies continued to pepper the Uzbeki goal and build pressure with several corners but the breakthrough would not come until just under 10 minutes until the break.

Substitute Chidiac combined with Norrie with the Brisbane Roar midfielder drilling her strike from 15 yards out past the Uzbek goalkeeper.

Australia continued to control proceedings in the second half but again it took until late in the piece for them to breakdown a stubborn Uzbeki defensive block.

First Pender played in Princess Ibini who found herself one on one with the goalkeeper only to see Tilovova Laylo make a strong block.

Then Laylo denied Baker's strike in the 84th minute but there was nothing the keeper could do about Australia grabbing a late second goal in additional time.

With the clock counting down Natalie Tobin sent in a corner which was well met by the centre back O'Brien for a goal on her 18th birthday.

“Uzbekistan bunkered down and defended well and we need to learn how to break teams down who play like that, especially in Asia, it’s a lesson for us to learn."
