Molloy sustained the Lisfranc injury to her right foot - when metatarsal bones are displaced -  during a tackle in the first quarter of Collingwood’s VFLW preliminary final loss to Geelong on Sunday.

The 19-year-old will undergo surgery next week, ruling her out of the 2019 season following a stunning debut season with the Pies which saw her win All-Australian honours, the AFLW Rising Star award and Collingwood’s best and fairest trophy.

Performance and Strategy Manager Marcus Wagner said that Molloy will continue to be involved with the team in 2019.

“Chloe will undergo surgery on her right foot next week, ruling her out of the 2019 AFLW season,” Wagner said

“It’s devastating for Chloe, who has put in a lot of hard work since her stand-out first AFLW season with the club.

“I’m sure Chloe will do everything she can to get back on the field as soon as possible, and in the meantime she’ll remain involved in our AFLW program to continue her football development.”

Molloy shared her disappointment in missing what would have been her second AFLW season.

“I was really looking forward to running out with the team again in 2019, but hopefully it creates an opportunity for another young footballer to work hard and achieve her dream,” Molloy said.

“While I won’t be on the field with them, I’ll do everything I can to help and support the team in 2019.”
